Presence sensing technology is any combination of hardware and software that is used to determine where people are within a particular space. Presence sensing technology is distinct from surveillance technology in that it doesn’t record images or audio, giving it the advantage of not recording any personally identifiable information (PII).
Common uses of presence sensing technology include being able to automatically switch off lights and other powered devices when a space is unoccupied, gathering occupancy statistics for compliance and reporting purposes, and security.
